CATALOGUE METHOD · TRANSPARENT COUNTING
A work is not the same thing as an edition—or a recording.
This reading room now keeps the story being described separate from the objects and recordings through which readers encounter it.
The six entries we distinguish
- Literary work
- The underlying novel, story or collection. This is what the main title count measures.
- Edition
- A territory-, publisher-, format- and ISBN-specific manifestation of a work. A paperback reissue does not become a new novel.
- Bind-up
- Previously published works issued together. Components retain their own work entries and are not counted again as new stories.
- Adaptation
- A graphic, screen or other retelling derived from a work. It has its own production entry but not a place in the prose-series count.
- Companion
- A reference, activity or behind-the-scenes volume related to a fictional world.
- Contributor appearance
- An anthology containing Horowitz material alongside other writers. The volume and the contribution are identified separately.
Audiobooks are recordings
Recordings have their own narrator, label, duration, abridgement status, recording date, territory and platform identifiers. A new narrator or re-recording is not a new literary work.
Counting rule
The homepage total counts all listed entry types rather than novels alone. Permanent pages label the entity type, and edition or recording tables appear only where every displayed fact has a source. Missing metadata is not guessed.
