What is stored and why

If you choose “Allow local preferences”, the reading tools store reading status, page progress, ratings, private notes and spoiler preferences in your browser's local storage. This makes the tools work on that device. The information is not sent to this site or attached to an account.

Lawful basis and retention

The optional local-storage feature operates at your request. Where a message or correction is emailed to us, the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering it and maintaining accurate site content. Correspondence is retained only for as long as it is needed to handle the request and maintain an appropriate record.

Third parties

The hosting provider processes the technical requests needed to deliver each page. Links may take you to Audible, Bookshop.org, Amazon or Waterstones; those retailers apply their own privacy notices after you leave this site.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase or restrict use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Email us to make a request. Browser-only reading data can be removed through the site controls or your browser settings.

What is not active

• No analytics or search-console script.
• No newsletter form or email database.
• No personalised advertising or cross-site profiling.
• No server-side store of reading history, notes or spoiler choices.
